Welcome to Mrs. Bryant's Class Email Mrs. Bryant at JBryant@redlandchristianacademy.org
Hello! My name is Mrs. Bryant and I am both honored and blessed to be teaching at Redland Christian Academy for the second year. I have taught ESE at the early childhood, elementary, and middle school level. It is my goal to assure that all the students are comfortable in their environment and that every possible measure is taken to assure that they are reaching their ultimate potential. I am a firm believer that children are as unique in their learning styles as they are in their appearance, interests, and talents. It is my belief that these diversities are not a hindrance; rather they are amongst the greatest gifts God has ever given us. This nonconformity, these unorthodox characteristics, these distinguished gifts - make our world the interesting, beautiful place it is. In acknowledging this, our classroom is a place of total acceptance, where individuality is not only accepted, but nurtured and encouraged. Our philosophy is that a child needs love and acceptance to grow to their full capacity. When a child feels loved, their confidence is strengthened, their social skills improved, and their level of comfort increases dramatically. A comfortable, confident child is one who is open to learning, growing and experiencing new things. Our goal is to see the students blossom by using their talents and individual gifts as tools for their own success. When students are praised for their talents, confidence grows and forms a child willing and able to face challenges.
Our Classroom The PACES Curriculum: Our class will be working with specially designed books from the PACES Curriculum. The PACES Curriculum books in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Word Building and English allow students to work at their own pace. Each child will receive one on one attention while working in their PACE books to assure that they are fully understanding the material and feel both comfortable and confident in their work. This curriculum is flexible and allows students to target areas of weakness, while excelling in areas of strength. Each student will receive a set of books based on their grade level equivalence in that subject matter. A child who struggles in English, but excels in Mathematic can start at a lower level in English without hindering their Mathematic advancement. This provides ultimate flexibility for the diverse learner.
Science & Social Studies: A separate theme based Science and Social Studies curriculum has been created specifically for our students. A variety of methods are combined to accommodate every learner and assure students fully understand and appreciate the information presented. Using methods extracted from Montessori philosophy, Music, Art & Monthly Field Experience, students are guaranteed a year of growing and learning!
Reading: This year, two novels have been selected for our class. The novels were based solely on the general interest of our classes age group not on reading grade level equivalency. This is because a common problem encountered with late readers is a loss in interest of the material available at their level of ability. By selecting a relatively high level reading book with a content base that is enjoyable, it will motivate readers to continue reading for recreational purposes. In order to assure that students are challenged but not overwhelmed, time will be designated in class where I will read aloud to the students. The benefits of reading aloud to children are endless. It is a common misconception that reading aloud is to be practiced only with students in the early childhood stages of life; however, children at all levels of development benefit greatly from reading aloud. As we progress through the story, work will be assigned to students individually based on reading level, writing ability, and general scholastic strengths. The books chosen are two childhood classics that happen to be two of my personal favorites.
Art: Art plays a vitally important role in the educating of young minds. In recognizing that, art is integrated in many of our Social Studies, Science, Reading & Bible lessons. In addition to the art projects directly linked to class lessons, a separate Art class will be given once a week. It is at this time that students will have the opportunity to learn how to use new materials, learn about famous artist and their styles, and be challenged to create new artwork of their own.
Music:
Our Mission: Learning does not stop when the text books are closed. Education is not limited to the material learned in our curriculum. In recognizing that, we intend to teach the students to be well rounded individuals and to live a Christian life. It is impossible for this to take place without building a strong bridge between the home and the classroom - using the word of God and the love of Christ as the building blocks. Parent involvement is not only welcome, but encouraged. Our Lord is the strongest link between us and all of humanity. Ethnicity, culture, language, interests, learning styles, age, size, style… are all things that make us individual. Our Lord, our Father, our Mission, makes us one. I look forward to carrying out His mission with you. In His service and yours, Mrs. Bryant
